What is VoIP?
Voice over IP is a family of technologies that enables voice to be carried over the computer network. With VoIP, voice communication travels over a data network, similar to the telephone "network" as it is today.

What kind of equipment do I need to get ProVoice 2008 VoIP running?
#1 SIP-based telephones. SIP is an acronym for a commonly used technology to carry voice over the computer network. You can find many brands from manufacturers that offer these telephones. We tried many phones and we've come to like Aastra brand phones. Depending on the model, these cost approximately $90 to $280 each.
#2 An Intel-based computer, such as ones from Hewlett Packard that you can purchase for $500 to $900. It should have an Intel or Broadcom network adapter, 2GB memory, 20GB hard disk drive, and a CD-ROM drive. This is what the software will run on. It not only handles the telephone lines, but also voice mail, auto attendant, inbound and outbound call routing, and so forth.
#3 Digium voice board(s), with the specific type based on the type of telephone lines you have. This will allow you to use your current telephone lines.
#4 A computer network with a firewall and high-speed internet with at least one dedicated static IP address.
